Winter Session Starts: January 9th, 2021
– Adult Level 1 for beginners (Seijin 1)
This course is for those who have no prior knowledge or background in Japanese. The main objective of the course is to communicate orally in simple Japanese on various subjects: introducing yourself, family, favorite dishes, hobbies, shopping, travel, etc. The student will learn Japanese writing systems (Hiragana and Katakana). The teacher will also introduce Japanese culture through photos and videos.
The number of spaces is limited.
– Adult Levels 2 – 5 (Seijin 2 – 5)
These courses are for those who have some previous Japanese learning experience: students whose knowledge comes from self-study, private instruction or study at institutions other than Montreal Japanese Language Center.
SEIJIN 2: This course is for those who have already mastered Hiragana and Katakana. The student will learn the kanjis relevant for each lesson. The main objective is to be able to communicate using Japanese in real situations such as family life, season and weather, work, the city, a picnic, health matters, a celebration, etc.
SEIJIN 3: This course is for those who have acquired a good foundation of spoken Japanese. The student will learn the kanjis relevant for each lesson and improve their oral comprehension. The objective is to be able to exchange opinions with classmates and give advice in Japanese on various subjects such as the origin of the first name, recommended restaurants, travel tips, Japanese and foreign festivals.
SEIJIN 4: This course is for those who can speak Japanese. The goal is to be able to discuss food from Japan and foreign countries, job search, opinions about marriage, finding accommodation, travel problems, etc. New activities are proposed such as making public speeches, reading e-mails and blogs, and writing essays.
SEIJIN 5: The student will develop the following five skills: oral comprehension, conversation, speech, written comprehension, as well as writing. The aim is to become able to take part in more complex communication, such as giving information about recent news, giving health advice, and talking about your country’s traditional arts and history. Another aim is to become able to read and understand a variety of texts, such as Internet bulletin boards and magazine columns.

**Students are required to purchase the Marugoto coursebook for their level.
**Second term registration will be from November 14 to January 4. Register before December 12 to get a 5% credit towards third term registration fees.
** Reregister on Amilia with the same email used the last term to ensure correct billing.
** A discount code is NOT required, 5% will be automatically deducted from Spring term registration.

Take our online placement test through Amilia to determine your level . You will receive your registration code after your test has been reviewed. N.B. that Seijin Levels 2 and higher are for those who have mastered hiragana and katakana.
3 – RETURNING SEIJIN 1A-5 STUDENTS CLICK HERE
Your registration code will be emailed to you. If you have studied at MJLC in the past year but have not received a registration code, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your full name and last level taken to request it.
Due to ongoing concerns about Covid-19, our winter session will be taught online with Zoom. You will receive detailed information about the course by email one week prior to the start of classes.
If you wish to register your Japanese speaking child in our children’s classes, please refer to our Japanese site and follow the instructions to ensure that your application is properly considered.
* In case of high demand, you may be placed on the waiting list.
PAYMENT AND CANCELLATION
Tuition is due the day before the start of classes. Under exceptional circumstances, special payment terms may be arranged with the center. Please note that annual membership fees and new student registration fees will not be refunded under any circumstances. (Tuition fees are refundable until the day before the first class. Placement test fees are refundable before the test is taken, but not after.)
In case of emergency class cancellation due to bad weather or force majeure, tuition will not be refunded.
