ADULT COURSES
Level 1 for beginners
This course is for those who have no experience studying Japanese.The main objective of the course is to communicate orally in simple Japanese on various subjects: introducing yourself, family, favorite dishes, hobbies, shopping, travel, etc. The student will learn Japanese writing systems (Hiragana and Katakana). The teacher will also introduce Japanese culture through photos and videos. The number of places is limited.

Levels 2 to 5
The following courses are for those who have some previous Japanese learning experience: students whose knowledge comes from self-study, private instruction or study at institutions other than Montreal Japanese Language Center. (Note: New students to the center are asked to take a placement test prior to registration to validate their level.)
Level 2 (Elementary 1): This course is for those who have already mastered Hiragana and Katakana. The student will learn the kanjis relevant for each lesson. The main objective is to be able to communicate using Japanese in real situations such as family life, season and weather, work, the city, a picnic, health matters, a celebration, etc.

Level 3 (Elementary 2): This course is for those who have acquired a good foundation of spoken Japanese. The student will learn the kanji relevant for each lesson and improve their oral comprehension. The objective is to be able to exchange opinions with classmates and give advice in Japanese on various subjects such as the origin of their first name, recommended restaurants, travel tips, Japanese and foreign festivals.
Coursebook : Marugoto A2 Elementary 2
Level 4 (Pre-intermediate): This course is for those who can speak Japanese. The goal is to be able to discuss food from Japan and foreign countries, job search, opinions about marriage, finding accommodation, travel problems, etc. New activities are proposed such as making public speeches, reading e-mails and blogs, and writing essays, with the aim of completing level A2 and starting level B1.
Coursebook : Marugoto Pre-Intermediate (A2/B1)
Level 5 (Intermediate): The student will develop the following five skills: oral comprehension, conversation, speech, written comprehension, as well as writing. The aim is to become able to take part in more complex communication, such as giving information about recent news, giving health advice, and talking about your country’s traditional arts and history. Another aim is to become able to read and understand a variety of texts, such as Internet bulletin boards and magazine columns.

Annual Registration Fee: $10
Placement Test Fee: $5 (one-time assessment fee for Levels 2 to 5)

** Reregister on Amilia with the same email used the last term to ensure correct billing.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- In case of high demand, you may be placed on the waiting list.
- The Montreal Japanese Language Center is taking the COVID-19 pandemic seriously and continues to take measures to ensure students and staff are safe.The decision to conduct classes in-person will be subject to the public health measures advised by the Quebec Government in August, 2022. In the event of new directives from the Government, the Center will conduct classes on-line instead of in-person. Subsequent changes to scheduling will be posted on our website and communicated to registered students in a timely manner..
PAYMENT :
Tuition is due the day before the start of classes. Under exceptional circumstances, payment terms may be arranged with the Center in some cases.
CANCELLATION:
- If a cancellation request is received before the day of first class of the semester, a full refund will be given.
- If a cancellation request is received after the first class, a refund of the remaining tuition fee for the semester, minus the 10% penalty fee, will be processed.
- Placement test fees are refundable before the test is taken. No refund will be processed after the test is administered.
- Please note that annual membership fees and new student registration fees are not refundable and will not be refunded under any circumstances.
- You will receive an email notification once our financial department processes your refund.
